E25 Walk Away to Walk Together: Taking Breaks During Conflict

Season #1

It’s ok to take a break in the midst of conflict.

HOWEVER, you must also come back together to repair, reconnect, and resolve the conflict to figure out how to move forward.

This week we're listening to Jimmy Knowles (@jimmy_on_relationships) talk about shutting down during conflict in this Instagram reel.

We had very different – basically opposite – styles of dealing with conflict that we had to sort through in order to resolve conflict in a healthy way. The goal of conflict is mutual understanding – because we want to enjoy spending time together.

Listen to this week’s episode as we talk through:

  • What we think it actually means to not let the sun go down on your anger
  • Jumping into problem solving mode vs. allowing the other person to process their thoughts and feelings
  • Feeling overwhelmed by the emotion of another person
  • “Tell me what’s wrong and I’ll go fix it” vs. “You are saying I’m what’s wrong and can’t be fixed”
  • Getting to the core of the emotional problem vs. the actionable problem to solve

Proverbs 15:1…A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
