Purpose, Vision, and Calling Resources

You will experience clarity, fulfillment, peace, and spiritual growth by discovering God's purpose, vision, and calling for your life. 

Your purpose is the foundation of who you are in Christ. It is the reason for your existence and the core of your identity. Purpose is like a microscope – it reveals your base, structural elements. In other words, it’s why you do what you do – on a foundational level. 

While your purpose is the foundation of who you are in Christ, your vision is a picture of what you hope to achieve in life, what you want your life to look like. It is guided by your purpose and based on your values and core beliefs. 

Vision is not merely a list of goals. It is a picture of the future that you want to create with God. It is a compass that guides you on your journey. It is a North Star that keeps you on track. Vision is not the destination, but the road map that gets you there. 

God’s primary calling for us is to Himself. Above all else, we are called to Someone (God), not to something (such as motherhood, politics, or teaching) nor to somewhere (such as the inner city or Outer Mongolia).

As followers of Christ, we have a primary calling from God, to God. 

In addition to this calling, we have secondary callings to things and places. We often find God’s secondary callings through what we are uniquely gifted and equipped to do that will bring glory to God. As we discuss calling in this section, we are referring to secondary callings.
